Engineering onboarding checklist

Week one — hardware

Every engineer is issued a laptop from the standard build: 16-inch, 36 GB RAM, 1 TB disk. Swaps outside the standard build need a written reason and go to the finance lead.

Week one — access

Your manager requests Drive, GitHub and Slack on your first day. Access to the production environment is deliberately not part of onboarding; ask once you need it, and say what for.

Week two — your first change

Ship something small and user-visible in your first fortnight. It matters less what it is than that you have been through review, CI and a deploy once while someone is watching.
